Snowbasin Resort, located in Huntsville, Utah, has been a popular destination since 1936 and was even a site for the 2002 Winter Olympics. The resort offers classic ski activities and hosts year-round events. Visitors can take Olympic-themed gondola rides to the top of the mountain for breathtaking views and access to Needles Lodge where they can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and dining. The resort features ski slopes suitable for all levels with trained instructors available.

Fantastic terrain. Pretty damn good lift service and the crowds weren't bad at all.Great food up top - don't pass on the Reuben sandwich!

Matt M — Google review

Pretty easy to get to. Did not go at a popular day or good snow. Staff was friendly, facilities nice. A little worried about parking when it gets busy.

Glue G — Google review

Snowbasin is an incredible ski resort that offers something for everyone. The variety of trails is outstanding, from wide-open cruisers to long, challenging runs that will test even the most advanced skiers. The mountain is well-maintained, and the terrain is thoughtfully laid out, making it easy to explore. If you’re up for a challenge, the longer runs will leave your legs burning in the best way possible. However, one tip: try to avoid the Porcupine lift if you can. It’s an older, slower lift that doesn’t quite match the efficiency of the rest of the resort. That said, it’s easy to plan your day around the newer, faster lifts, which keep you skiing instead of waiting.Overall, Snowbasin delivers a fantastic mountain experience with plenty of variety and excitement. Just a little lift strategy, and you’re set for an unforgettable day!

I went there for the first time yesterday for the Oktoberfest. Was just great! The resort is so pretty and well taken cared of, which means whoever is in charge really cares about it!Worth to take the gondola and the views are breathtaking! Just absolutely beautiful! The staff is pretty awesome and polite, they make you feel welcomed! Totally Different from the resorts in Park City. Also they are dog friendly! Took my dog and our little family had a bless!Must go for sure! Can’t wait to shred the slopes!Thank you! Was just great!P.S: please add more food vendors. 😊And please do not charge $5 for a soda refill! That costa less than 0.01 for you guys! That was bad!

Chef F — Google review

It's always wonderful to ski here. The staff are top-notch and the terrain is always fun to ski. When there's plenty of snow, this place is amazing. Can't wait for more snow to come in January/February.

Rad mountain. Very nice ski resort. Way, way better than Park City - but everyone in Utah knows this already.

Snowbasin Resort in Huntsville, Utah, is an absolute gem! Riding the Olympic-themed gondolas to the top was an unforgettable experience. As we ascended, the views were nothing short of spectacular, and once we exited at the Needles Lodge, the adventure truly began. With hiking, mountain biking, and dining at the lodge all within reach, we opted for a hike to the top of the Wasatch Mountains. This is an amazing way to experience the beauty of Utah. The hike was breathtaking, literally and figuratively! We crossed patches of snow that hadn’t melted, and in the middle of July, we found ourselves making mini snowmen and throwing snowballs – a unique experience in the summer heat. The 360-degree panoramic views from the top were simply stunning. We were treated to a mesmerizing view of Ogden, Layton, the Ogden Valley, Pineview Reservoir, the Great Salt Lake, and even Antelope Island in the distance. This is a must-do experience for anyone visiting the area. The memories made at Snowbasin will last a lifetime. Highly recommend!

Nature & Parks

Powder Mountain is a sprawling ski area in Utah, offering 154 trails, 2 terrain parks, and 9 lifts. It stands out for providing extensive terrain with fewer crowds compared to other resorts in the area. Despite having similar daily ticket prices as some well-known resorts, Powder Mountain ensures a more intimate experience by limiting the number of season passes sold each year. Visitors praise the resort for its vast ski area, stunning views, and efficient lift lines even on weekends.

As avid skiers based in Park City, we’ve explored nearly every ski resort in the area, from Deer Valley, Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, Solitude, Sundance & Snowbasin. After hearing countless great things about Powder Mountain, we decided to make the scenic hour-and-a-half drive for a midweek visit (Tuesday after MLK weekend), and we couldn’t have been more impressed. The drive to Powder Mountain was breathtakingly beautiful, and parking was a breeze. We opted for the Timberline parking area, which was conveniently mid-mountain and served as the starting point for their Complimentary Mountain Tour. Arriving early, we waited in the cozy skier services yurt, where Angela G. provided exceptional hospitality. She gave us insider tips on the mountain, local dining recommendations, and even handed out some Powder Mountain stickers. Her proactive attitude ensured that our experience started on the right note. When the tour began, our hosts, Tate and Bob, were nothing short of fantastic. Tate’s dad jokes kept the mood light, and his deep knowledge of the terrain made navigating this vast mountain much easier. He catered to our 14-year-old son’s enthusiasm for steeps and challenging runs by pointing out the best spots and explaining how to access the “secret” areas. Powder Mountain truly lives up to its name. Despite no fresh snow for a week, we discovered untouched powder and had vast areas seemingly to ourselves. The diversity of terrain was impressive with groomed greens and blues perfect for cruising, scenic bowls and rolling meadows, gorgeous aspen glades and thrilling steeps, backcountry terrain, and hike-to areas like James Peak. There’s something for everyone, making it an ideal destination whether you’re a beginner or an expert. We took a break at Timberline Lodge for lunch, and the pizza was incredible. The pulled pork banh mi was flavorful, the spicy Hawaiian had a perfect kick, and our son’s classic pepperoni didn’t disappoint. The quality of food exceeded expectations for on-mountain dining. The combination of Powder Mountain’s outstanding customer service, extensive terrain, and serene atmosphere made it one of the best ski days we’ve had. It’s hard to believe such an expansive and uncrowded resort is just a short drive from Park City. Whether you’re looking for fresh powder, diverse runs, or a friendly vibe, Powder Mountain is worth the trip. We’ll absolutely be back!Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Theresa L — Google review

You should go... such a great time skiing on their uncrowded slopes! Fresh powder, couldn't be better! Amy is the sweetest and most knowledgable information girl - ask her anything! After skiing hang out at the Powder Keg, drink beer, and listen to some good live music!

Michelle S — Google review

LOVE IT! GREAT BEER! GREAT FOOD! GREAT MUSIC! GREAT SERVICE! THE STAFF IS AWESOME. DONT EVER CHANGE! WE LOVED THE MOUNTAIN AS WELL. CANT WAIT TILL MORE IS OPEN TO SEE EVERYTHING POWDER MOUNTAIN HAS TO OFFER!

David S — Google review

We came out here for night snowboarding because Brighton closed down due to the dangerous weather, and we're glad we did. Not only was Powder Mountain cheaper, but it wasn't very crowded - so we got a ton of great powder runs in.At night time they only open one lift and a few trails, but they are well lit and quite a lot of fun to shred on.The facilities are in great shape and we had no issues with parking, lift tickets, food, or restrooms during our stay.

Greg E — Google review

I pay $20 and then they send an email saying they can’t open because it’ll be windy. Ok fine. But then you keep reading to the part where they won’t refund your ticket. This chief supervisor guy LOGAN, thought giving attitude was funny. Honestly not his fault, but I’m reading these one star reviews about how terrible this mountain is now. 😒

Jennings F — Google review

Never coming back for those prices. 5% open and paid full price. What a ripoff! I should never have just showed up thinking under $200 for a day. Wow! No thank you. No decent food or drink services, barely any parking, not steep. Hard pass.

Laura C — Google review

Night snowboarding is totally worth it.Friendly staff and not over crowded

Leon N — Google review

I just learned of how Powder Mountain is apparently trying to ruin their own resort. I was just there 2 years ago and it was great and a very good price. I understand needing to charge for parking as most do that and I get if they had to raise prices to stay open. But to basically just give a middle finger to everyone and make certain lifts private homeowner lifts instead of paying customers. This whole thing is just absurd. I won’t be going back to this place on my next trip to Utah.

Starting spot for a popular 1.8-mi. hike up to a dramatic viewpoint with arched rock formations.

Wonderful, wonderful hike!!!Not easy, but totally do-able for anyone! Inclines and switch backs, but with time & water you'll do just fine. Super cool views up top. The cave goes under the look out, and around the side. Worth all the exploring! AllTrails has wonderful tracking if needed, but trail is worn in wonderfully.

C P — Google review

It's a bit of a hike on switch backs. Which is fine but the trail is rather thin and there's traffic going both directions. With the downhill side being rather steep. They should invest some resources to widen the trail at least a couple of feet. They have some parking at the base but not near enough for the amount of people that visit at a time. A water source will be needed especially if you have a dog. There is a spring towards the beginning of the trail. Though I'm unsure of its purity.

Emery O — Google review

Little steep hike. About 6 km round trip. The cave is amazing, a little the idea of arches.

Pil G — Google review

Beautiful hike up to the wind caves. It was fairly moderate terrain as it was quite a steep climb most of the way. Little to know shade during the day time, but the views are definitely worth the trek!

Elizabeth D — Google review

Beautiful hike! Took us 3 hrs but we made plenty of stops along the way. The cave is pretty cool.

Tameren M — Google review

This hike is very nice, the trail was challenging at some points, and cave at the top have a great view of the valley. Got there around 7:30 am and there was plenty of parking. However, on the way down, we encountered a fairly steady stream of folks around 9am and parking was filling up. Enjoy!

Jed J — Google review

A pretty steep hike in certain parts but shouldn’t take more than 2 hours roundtrip. The elevation gain can be a lot, so make sure to take stops to breathe and bring water! Way easy on the way back. Beautiful caves!

Emma C — Google review

Beautiful early morning hike. Took approximately 3.5 hrs total. I’m not an experienced hiker so it was a tad of a struggle for me but it was my daughter’s 3rd time to make the trek to the top and was no issue for her. I made plenty of rest stops. Pet friendly. Take a snack to enjoy at the top while viewing Gods beautiful creation.

We went snowmobiling yesterday and had an amazing time. The views are spectacular and the trail is very well groomed. They bring you to an open space to zip around quickly if you prefer. What a great time - and we saw a moose!!!!

We went on an incredible tour with our amazing guide Sara. Big bunch of family from Kentucky and then a couple of us locals. It was such a beautiful ride and we all had such a fun time, we even got to see a whole moose family. We loved every second of it and already determined to come back and do it again. Everyone was so great to us all and even the pups that greeted us on arrival. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great way to get into the beautiful country and make memories that will last a lifetime.

The people during check in and check out we're super nice and helpful and even recommended a great restaurant after!! Glad we found this place and will use them again in the future when we bring more family to travel with us!!

Michelle J — Google review

Had a great time here! Snow was coming down hard during our ride and the scenery was incredible. We were a little concerned there might not be enough snow, but this place is far enough up the mountain that they had way more snow than where we were staying in Park City. Was definitely worth the drive. Our guide, Connor, was awesome and made sure everyone was safe and had a good time.

Tim C — Google review

Definitely an amazing adventure. We did the 3 hour tour and got to see some very beautiful scenery that we would not have gotten to have seen on the 2.5 hour tour. Sarah was our guide and was definitely the best. I carried my 5 year old and every time we would take a break she would get down in the snow and play with him. She was very attentive to the needs of the entire group. Definitely deserves 6 stars

Bodies of Water

Known for its blue waters, this park with beaches is popular for boating, fishing & water sports.

This lake blew the socks off of us! It is beyond beautiful. We understand why it's called the Caribbean of the West. The water is so clear. It changes colors from green to blue to dark blue. It's simply beautiful. There is so much to do on this lake. Whether you rent a jetski, or go out on a pontoon, or ride on a raft or paddleboard, it's all fun.

Darlene K — Google review

Reviewing Bear Lake SP Rendezvous Beach campground outside Laketown. Tent area is all walk-ins, I don't understand why DNRs think this is OK. The entire campground lacks shade, but tent sites 19 and 20 (pictured) have a little, though they are 200 feet away from the parking lot. It was too windy to tent so I slept in the Outback. Came here for the showers which didn't disappoint.

Clark M — Google review

Bear Lake State Park is a beautiful camping, boating, swimming Park with access to beautiful Bear Lake on the south side boasting the huge and magnificent blue Bear Lake, white sandy beaches, green trees, large camp sites with fire pits and clean and convenient bathrooms with individual shower rooms. Throughout the park there are large pavilions. The campground hosts were polite and gate attendants were very helpful.Con: individual campsites have been placed between two pavilions that abuts the campsites. Each pavilion campground has a 50 person capacity each and the pavilions are equipped with bright lights and grills causing unbearable noise and light pollution at all hours. These campgrounds are very close to the bathroom/shower facilities and the smell was occasionally rancid.Four stars given because of the beauty and ease of access to amenities. I won’t penalize the Park for very inconsiderate campers.

Caribbean of the Rockies, lol. Really nice lake with super clean and clear waters. Gets a bit chilly but fun place to hang out. Got a sandy beach to the north side. A couple of rocky beaches on the side of the road to the east as you come in from Logan and a few camping sites on the east side of lake. Nice place to spend a day.

Suckadave — Google review

Amazing place for a weekend family getaway! We had a blast hanging out by the water which was thankfully still warm. Great spot to take out some paddle boards with the beautiful scenery and calm waters. We missed the famous raspberry shakes as most shops closed after Labor Day though. Still, can’t believe it took me so long to visit 😆

2023 update - It is going to be an amazing summer at Bear Lake. The lake should completely fill after all the snow this year.Just love the Bear Lake area. The State Park and marina are excellent. Easy to launch a boat even on weekends when it can get pretty crazy. A annual pass was only $30 for us old guys!

Reed B — Google review

🏖️🤿 Beautiful place to relax and absorb the natural environment when you are looking to get cool during Utah’s dog days of summer. There are many spots where the sand is soft on the feet and great for building sand castles if that’s your thing. There are picnic tables, campsites, and day use areas; all for various reasons to visit. We usually make day trips here as a family, though have camped on the northern side rim. One unique attribute of this lake is the water clarity - you can walk 100+ yards out and still feel the bottom and see your feet! Enjoy! ☀️

This United States National Monument draws a crowd with hiking plus paleontology & geology talks.

All fish hands down. This was absolutely the most famous in my head of any fossil that I’ve seen in one place. It was amazing. The building was cool, but the amount of fossils was amazing. Plus they have the little penny machine, a couple movies that you can watch about the history and outside halfway around the building. It shows the timeline from 500 million years old, fabulous. let us not forget the people that made our experience so fun. Rudolph, Emily and John.I WOULD RECOMMEND

Cindy L — Google review

What a wonderful visitors center! Fantastic fossil displays, interactive features for kids and some of the best diorama depictions of prehistoric environments I've ever seen. Live demonstrations of fossil hunting, evaluation and cleaning are available at different time. This is atrue hidden gem of the National Monument program.

Darien G — Google review

Beautiful fall day visit. Few visitors. Incredible exhibits at the visitor center. Hiked the nature loop and enjoyed the forever views.

Adam O — Google review

Not much to see in terms of natural beauty except seeing the fossils in the visitor center. The research staff there were very good though and did the 20-minute education program for us under the sun.

QL Q — Google review

This is a very remote national monument but also an amazing look at fossilized history. The visitors center is basically a fossil museum. You'll find every kind of fish fossil, crocodiles, manta rays, leafs, poops and more! The area was once a lake which is how all the aquatic creatures came to fossilize. Entry is free and and there's no charge to walk or drive around. There are two films available to watch on demand and they actually do add a lot. Be sure to check out the restrooms in the visitors center because there's a really cool surprise inside them!

Michael B — Google review

This national monument is a treasure. The visitor center is staffed with knowledgeable and enthusiastic rangers, and a great fossil exhibit. Be sure to check out the bathroom for even more fossils. The”age of earth in inches” exhibit starts soon after you enter the monument line, so be sure to check out the signs on the right side of the road going in!There is a gravel road past the nature trail (which is lovely) that I look forward to checking out the next time I come through.

This place has best preserve 50 million years old fossils in the world, fishes cocodriles, horses!!! Seeds!! Everything! Very well preserve, you must to visit and see this wonderful place! Tour guide is so nice, he showed us some amazing pieces from the laboratory! We visit the quarry, but it's most better to visit in summer obviously!! Wow! What a great experience! I just happened to stop by this museum on my way to Idaho just to check it out, and I'm glad I did!The tour itself was about an hour long, or maybe less. My tour guide (I can't remember her name) was incredibly knowledgeable and thorough, which made for a great tour! I could tell that she enjoys what she does as it showed throughout the entire tour.Though I was the only one in this tour slot, she didn't treat me any differently. She was willing to stop and answer any questions I had and provided ample time for any photos I wanted to take. There is so much history in this place. I would definitely recommend checking it out!

Kurt R — Google review

Cool stop and a great free museum! We were passing through on a cross country trip and didn’t have time to take the tour of the prison, but they had a wonderful free museum and gift shop, clean bathrooms also. We spent a good 30-45 minutes in the museum and outside grounds.

Sheila B — Google review

Visited the site and took pics but was closed for tours due to COVID (2021). Very cool historic site they preserve instead of just abandoning to go to waste or tearing it down. I’m sure the inside is neat and interesting to see as well.

FFKDTP1 — Google review

This place has the potential to be an incredible tour. However our 14 yr old tour guide, dampened the experience for us. He seemed bored, yawning a couple times during the tour. The couple we were with, made the comment to me that he seemed annoyed when she asked a question. He overall wasn’t ever informative which is disappointing because the history of the place is amazing. I learned more from the plaques in the museum section than from him, so I highly recommend reading them. I know he was young and he said it was his first job, but maybe the tour guides should have cue cards or a similar speech so the guest experience is more similar across the board then depending upon who your tour guide. As the guide for the group after us seemed more energetic and animated. Overall it’s worth the stop to get to experience this piece of history.

D L — Google review

We knew nothing about this historic site prior to our visit to Rawlins. I am so glad we decided to tour the prison! The building is incredibly interesting- beautiful, mysterious, a little creepy and 100% loaded with history. Our guide (Charles) was fantastic - knowledgeable, witty and completely seemed to enjoy giving the tour. Prior to our scheduled time, I researched and watched documentaries and despite all I learned ahead of time, Charles was able to add a ton of information. I highly recommend taking this tour and visiting the museum. I wish we were going to be here during Halloween…I am sure it’s a totally different experience! Enjoy!

Kim S — Google review

Daniaca was a very friendly and knowledgeable guide. We loved that we could bring our dog instead of leaving her in our RV, since we are traveling. She was welcomed and so we could enjoy the tour. We loved the interesting stories. Plenty of street parking on the wide street for our RV. Plenty of benches if you need to sit. Clean bathrooms.

Nancy N — Google review

Tina was a great tour guide, the tour was very informative and the building is so well kept for having been abandoned for a good few years. The building is also much larger then it appears and you get to see everything including the gas chamber and death row! I highly recommend the tour to anyone traveling nearby.

Ian C — Google review

Really fun place to stop off and tour on our way to Yellowstone. Very interesting history. We looked it up the day before and was surprised at only 11 women incarcerated here. You do get to your death row the gallows and the gas chamber. My one critique is maybe tour guides need a script or learn a few more stories. We read them online history is fascinating but was left out of the tour.

The pools were nice and HOT! Yes there is algae growth on the walls and stairs so be careful when going in. Pick a pool, soak a bit, meet people from everywhere, then go sit in the river. The river is cold, clear, and you can find a few spots where the thermal heat seeps up to make it a bit warmer. There are changing facilities, showers, restrooms, and lockers but bring your own lock. We didn’t have a lock and no one bothered our stuff. They have bench’s and hooks around the pool also. I recommend that you visit to check it out yourself.

TL;DRKinda shabby, but free with neat pools built into the river.---It's cool that the springs are free open 24/7, and I enjoyed the little pools built into the river. However, you could tell it is an underfunded public facility: The man-made pools were slimy with algae that sticks to the stairs and floated in the water, and the changing room smelled like an outhouse. I would have been upset if you had to pay to get in, but as a free experience it was fine.

Milo H — Google review

Free access to hot springs they have changing rooms with showers and toilets. River access spots with hot springs water flowing in. I love the hot springs and have made the drive multiple times to go to this specific one. The weekdays are typically less crowded. Great surrounding natural areas definitely worth the trip every time.

If you're anywhere near Saratoga, Wyoming (especially during colder weather) you need to stop in and experience this free hot spring. It's open 24/7 and is free... you can leave tips near the entrance if you want, but it's not a requirement. They have excellent changing rooms, showers, and bathrooms for both men and women. It truly is a religious experience dipping your body into that hot spring. We also got out after about 15 minutes, then walked over to the cold stream and splashed the freezing water on our bodies. We went back into the main hot spring to warm up again. The air temperature was around 21 degrees Fahrenheit and it felt amazing. They also have a swimming pool that's operational in the summer.Next to the hot spring is another pool that's not as hot. Make sure you drink plenty of water and enjoy the healing benefits of the hot spring. Both, me and my brother felt amazing in our legs for about 4 hours after... we both commented on how good we felt as well as when it started to wear off. It's amazing the difference that hot spring had on us.I don't think we'd ever visit in the summer or on a hot day... but that's just us. We'd wait until the weather is probably under 60 degrees Fahrenheit or so.But... you gotta try this place... even if it's 2:30 am on a Sunday... you can go sit in the hot spring for free. We will definitely be planning our future trips so we can swing through there and take a dip in it again. Plus... the town is kind of cute... and it'd be fun to spend a day or so exploring beyond the hot spring. We also saw a lot of deer and the scenery is out of this world!

The S — Google review

So nice and relaxing in the hot springs. The heat in the 3 pools ranges from 104⁰-115⁰. And if the hot pools are too much for you, walk the short distance behind the hot springs to the river. The hot water dumps into the river which makes the water the perfect temperature.

Matt P — Google review

What a find for weary I80 travelers. We took the detour and it was so worth it. The hot pools are well maintained but dint expect any frills here. Bring your own towels and maybe even hand soap but for a free town amenity the experience is great. All of the locals are super friendly and the pools were not crowded at all.

This 250-acre ski area features 5 lifts serving 27 runs with a top to bottom elevation of 1000 feet.

We recently traveled from Texas to Snowy Range at the recommendation of friends. It was the perfect spot for our kids to learn to ski. Snow was great, ski lessons excellent and staff couldn’t have been friendlier. We couldn’t believe how impressed we were with everything and the price. We’ve skied at other popular spots in the past- This is now our favorite spot for the family. Simple setting, ( lacks the pretentious feel like some other popular resorts) with excellent customer service from the gift shop to ski patrol. Food available for purchase but we learned from others to pack a lunch. Many bring their own coolers. Highly recommend.

Great local skiing at a great price. Low traffic, easy/close parking, plenty of terrain for a beginner-learner, and for those experts there’s a couple runs that will keep you satisfied for the day. Do you get miles and miles of runs or pounding moguls and hundreds of people around you? Nope. And that’s what makes it great. Almost no wait lift lines, A couple mins on the lift, and plenty of space for you to ski down. Possible to get 6-8 runs an hour if you try hard. Great value. Oh and nice lodge, super convenient and well kept. Friendly staff!

MtZ R — Google review

Loved this place. Was there during Christmas break with family. It was fun and very economical. Nice blue and black runs. The restaurant area was large. We rented our equipment on site. Cheaper to rent online. Only negative was that we could not leave over equipment over night. After 2nd day they did manage to keep our skis over night. That really helped.

Favorite place to ski in all of the Rockies. Leave the crowds in CO, and drive up to Snowy Range!! Excellent hometown feel and service. Great greens and blues! Lovely lodge that isn’t too big or overpriced. Won’t find this with your Epic Pass! This ski area is good for families, friends, newbies and the more advanced athlete as well. Ski and snowboard school is valuable and a great place to learn.

Morgan L — Google review

Love the skiing. NOT ALLERGY FRIENDLY. The lodge leaves us wanting especially compared to previous years. “No public microwave”, be warned. Allergies are really difficult to work with at the cafeteria (especially when no salads are available) and no microwave means we couldn’t heat our own allergy friendly lunches. Also hot water is no longer free, it’s now $3. We had to pay the already overpriced cafeteria prices for half the food to work with the allergies of our crew.

Jessica M — Google review

Great place for beginner, price and slope wise! Only 2.5 hrs+ from Denver. Worth it if you are not an expert but wanted to try out. Rental start $25++ and day lift $50++.. Nearby town is cheaper too compared to Breck or Vail lol

I’ve been snowboarding for a long time, mostly in Colorado. No joke, I had one of the best days. The staff was amazing . My fave part of the day was ski patrol, I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting a ski patrol person who was as fun, professional and spirited till today. Wish I could remember his name but I will drop some pics. Thank you again for BEST DAY EVER! My son and I def will never forget <3

Sandra M — Google review

We love Snowy Range!! This is a fantastic place for kids and beginner skiers and snowboarders. We live in Fort Collins and love the drive. We’ve rarely been stuck in traffic and really haven’t run into much bad weather. The staff has been great each time we’ve gone, and helped us have a great experience. The food in the cafe is ok, but you can bring your own stuff too. Everything is right there, which is SO nice! Try and get there before 8:30am and you’ll get a great parking spot. There are multiple lifts and runs from a super easy green to blacks! The magic carpet for kids is great and ours have sometimes spent all day there learning. We highly recommend Snowy Range!

Nestled at an impressive elevation of 11,796 feet along the Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, the Alpine Visitor Center stands as the highest visitor center in the National Park System. Its distinctive lattice log roof design is engineered to withstand fierce winter winds. This center offers a unique opportunity to explore and understand the alpine tundra ecosystem that thrives in this high-altitude region.

Probably prettiest place of the whole Rocky Mountain NP. The valley behind the visitor center is very impressive. The wind and the view is astonishing. Million dollar view in the cafe inside the VC.

A great spot.with amazing views. Could use more parking and more bathrooms but the Cafe and store a nice with a decent selection of.food and drink. Loved the sweet potato fries, warm pretzels and hot chocolate. Definitely hike up to the viewpoints. Saw a bunch of big elks. Wish people would respect the animals and stay back.Old Fall River road was enjoyable as a drive. Wider than expected and manageable to drive. And the Trail road back had fabulous views as well. Saw some pika and mule deer along the trails. Loved our visit though short. We didn't have reservations but arrived before 9 am and got in no problem with our annual pass.

It's a nice visitor center with helpful and friendly staff. The restricted access to the parking area seems to add to the congestion, but did help with orderly entry. There's also a restaurant next door. For me, the best part is a long ascending foot path to the summit across the parking lot that gets you a lovely vista of the surrounding mountains. In case you don't know, From May to October, Rocky Mountain National Park requires reservations for a timed entry. You should Google it and do it after 7 PM the night before. It's only $2 for the reservation.

Nice place at the top of RMNP. Need to get the restrooms fixed on the office side, too long of lines when it gets busier. Great views, usually able to spot wildlife, mainly elk, in the valley. Two of us got lucky and spotted a big bull moose across the road walking along a trail. Gods creations are truly amazing. Get up there at day break for the best chance of seeing the animals.

Ron B — Google review

The ride up to the alpine visitor center in Rocky Mountain National park is a once in a lifetime experience. For me, it was the highlight of the park. It simply boasts some of the most breathtaking views in the entire country. If you are coming to visit the national park, I highly recommend including this route to your travel plan. You will see plenty of wildlife - mostly deer, maybe a moose if you are lucky.Bring a jacket. The peak was freezing cold at the peak of summer.Coming from Denver, you are driving from ~5k ft of elevation to ~12k ft. If you suffer from elevation sickness, either come extra prepared, or skip this route altogether.

Guilherme B — Google review

Take the Old River Rd up to three visitor center. You’ll see lots of wildlife including moose, elk, and deer. Cool views of the park and mountains. Then on the way back to Estes Park, take Trial Ridge back down.Keep in mind the road up and town from the visitor center is very narrow and winding.

Xin W — Google review

It was amazing, the parking lot was very full, and it was hard to find a parking space. But the sites were breathtaking, especially after walking up the short trail to the top.

William J — Google review

Be prepared for poor vision! If you're lucky, you'll have clear skies and a beautiful view! But, you may also have zero vision at the top. We were freezing and could not see the road or car ahead of us. We liked the adventure, but it was scary! We also went during a clear day and loved it! Definitely worth a trip!

Bear Lake Trailhead serves as the starting and ending point for a short nature trail looping around a scenic, high-altitude lake. Due to limited parking, access to the Bear Lake Corridor may be restricted during peak times, requiring visitors to use a hiker shuttle from Estes Park Visitor Center. The area offers several popular hiking routes, including a challenging four-mile hike up Flattop Mountain and an easier trail leading to Nymph, Dream, and Emerald lakes.

This is a very beautiful place. I watched the sunset yesterday 1-24-25 and didn't see another person out there. There were two other cars in the parking lot. I forgot my skin mask and gloves so I didn't stay out long in the 6⁰f weather. I'm lucky enough to live an hour away so I'll probably return today with the proper gear and get some hiking in.This place is magical. Much more so in the winter.

Gary M — Google review

Our hike here was AMAZING. This was my first ever hike in my life and I didn’t expect it to be this great at all. For the first quarter mile, I thought i wasn’t going to make it at all but we ended up seeing 5 lakes in our 6 mile hike. The views by every single lake are so worth the time and energy. We arrived very early at 4:40 to get free admission and parking. We began hiking at dark and we hiked as the beautiful sunrise starting coming out around 6:40. All of the trails were well maintained and the trails were empty right up until it hit around 9-10am. I would DEFINITELY recommend coming here before sunrise because the trails will get full of people. Honestly, if we had arrived around the same time that most people did, this hike would’ve only been half as enjoyable to me. I 100% wouldn’t miss out on this trail when you’re in the surrounding area.

I recently explored the Bear Lake Corridor, starting at Bear Lake with its stunning blue waters. The hike to Dream Lake was beautiful, with wildflowers lining the trail. Dream Lake offered a serene atmosphere and breathtaking reflections.Continuing on, I reached Emerald Lake, where the vibrant green waters and towering cliffs created a magical setting. Each lake had its own charm, making the entire experience a perfect blend of adventure and tranquility.

Supradeep B — Google review

Pretty lakes in Rocky Mountains. Beautiful hiking trails to the multiple lakes and scenic views. The lakes were completely frozen over! This is an easy hike even though trail was full of snow. Hiking shoes with good grip are recommended in the winters.

Chandra N — Google review

Beautiful nature! They have many trails but we only stayed in Bear Lake because of the winter storm. Roads were very slippery and icy. We wanted to explore Mill’s lake but we didn’t have chain or spike on our shoes, so we only stayed in bear lake. It was a very short loop walk around the lake and it’s absolutely stunning. There are park staffs standing the entrance for guidance, lot of signs with restrooms and sitting area.No dogs allowed in this park.

Daphne M — Google review

Epic hike! Absolutely gorgeous. Please don’t forget water. Bear lake is often VERY packed but pretty respectful of others. It changes once you leave for the emerald lake trail. People become more scarce even though the parking lot is full. It’s truly beautiful though. Just being outside in nature…not untouched because the trail is well groomed but it’s worth it!

Joseph B — Google review

Only hiked Bear Lake due to time constraints would love to return someday and hike to the rest of the lakes. Bear Lake hike is very easy, with plenty of places to stop and even sit, and enjoy the views. It gets VERY crowded on this trail (buses coming in constantly), so not my favorite, but again, I think the better views and less tourists are to be found by hiking on to the other lakes. Bathrooms available at the trailhead, also very crowded with lines.

Shalini J — Google review

Try and get an early timed entry for Bear Lake road.. they release more ticket at 7pm the night before. We got in about 6:30am and all the wild life very active. Hearing the Elks bugul was amazing.. we also saw a momma and baby bear. The sunrise over the mountain is stunning Drive to Sprague Lake and take in the morning sun on the lake. Just stunning and a lot less people. You can also access Bear lake road again after 2pm if you had a timed entry that day... Fall is so beautiful!!🍂🍂 Worth fighting the crowds.. go early or later in the day..much less hectic.

The Estes Park Aerial Tramway is a delightful way to experience the stunning beauty of Colorado's mountain landscape. Ascending to the summit of Prospect Mountain, this vintage European-style cable car offers breathtaking panoramic views from an impressive elevation of around 9,000 feet. In just under five minutes, visitors are whisked up over 1,000 feet above the ground, where they can take in sweeping vistas from the observation deck or explore various hiking trails that meander through this picturesque area.

What a wonderful treat worth every cent! When you get there you check in with someone at the front desk. There's a gift shop and bathrooms. When you're ready to head up, you line up outside (you'll understand when there) and wait for one of two trams. Every employee we encountered was friendly and knowledgeable. Breathtaking views all around on the short ride up and down. Once at the top there is a gift and coffee shop that does have a bathroom featuring deck that wraps all the way around the gift shop. Up for a short hike? Head up the mountain to the top for one of the most stunning views I've ever seen of Estes and I've been coming here my whole life! We didn't even begin to touch the other trails up there either, so we're excited to check those out the next time we are able to make it up. Glad we were able to check it out before they close for the season.

My husband and I spent the Labor Day weekend in Colorado and dedicated an entire day to exploring Estes Park. While researching activities online, we discovered this attraction was highly recommended. We pre-booked a 2 PM ride and arrived just a few minutes before departure. However, we ended up waiting about 30 to 45 minutes before boarding the tram. It seems the place was recently renovated, as the tram appeared new and well-maintained. The ride up and down the mountain was smooth and quick, taking about 2 1/2 to 3 minutes each way. The staff were very friendly, and there's always a conductor accompanying you during both ascent and descent. At the top, there's a small gift shop and a café, and the views are absolutely stunning. The cost is $36 per adult, which is on the pricier side, but I believe it’s necessary to ensure the safe operation and maintenance of the attraction.

Amazing experience! The staff were all so friendly and the views were gorgeous. The hike to West Summit is absolutely worth it. The facilities were very clean and there are also picnic tables at the top. We got there 9am on a Friday and there was no wait times.

Super cool ride, great view. Bring either sunscreen or UV shirt for the hike to the summit once you get up there. View is spectacular and it only requires a little extra effort. Everyone there is nice, the chipmunks are cute, cool gift shop, good coffee lounge.. great experience!

Nice piece of local history. Staff were friendly. Fun feeding the chipmunks! Beautiful views at the top! Definitely recommended buying tickets in advance. Cool that you can stay as long as you want up top!

Tracey G — Google review

Absolutely incredible views from the top! The tram felt very safe and it was a very quick ride up and down. Once you're at the top there's a cute little store and cafe with bathrooms and a small hike about 20 mins to the top of the mountain. Bathrooms available at both the top and the bottom of the tram. Not crowded at all on a weekday

Alanna — Google review

Worth the cost. Kids and adults will love the ride and the views. My son really enjoyed feeding the chipmunks and birds. The views are impressive, and even the fear of heights people in our party enjoyed it.

Came to Estes randomly and checked tickets when we got into town. They sell out fast on day of and near the ticket times. We checked at 11am and only available was at 1:20pm. Came about 10 minutes before our ticket time and was able to get right in line. Tram fits about 10 people. There were 3 trams ahead of us. We waited about 20 minutes to get on. The tram goes up as one comes down. About 5 minutes to top. Weekend parking was scarce. Just cable bringing tram up with no towers.30 people in line on way down. Wait was 20 minutes. No shade over line as you wait to go down. Bring water bottle with you.Not a lot to do up top. Wide road hiking trails and picnic tables at top. Small cafe with decent "resort" prices. Gift shop up top is small. Recommend the one at the bottom. They sell $3 bags of peanuts at top to FEED THE CHIMPMUNKS on the trails. Sooo confused as to encouragement to feed wildlife in Colorado but whatever.

The Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site in Laramie is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts and families alike. This restored 1872 prison once held the infamous outlaw Butch Cassidy for 18 months, offering visitors a glimpse into its intriguing past through self-guided and guided tours.

Closed during my visit, it appears to be an interesting property all the same. I parked in the expansive lot and walked the perimeter of the property. $9 adult entry to the museum and prison. There is also a $10 rv dump station at the far side of the parking lot. The lots were clean, well maintained and fairly level. Overnight parking is NOT allowed and the property is locked at closing. I had 3 bars of Verizon 4G LTE Roaming.

What a gem of history in Laramie. This was the first federal prison in the territories, and a great little museum. We thought an hour maybe, and spent almost 4 hours. Between the different buildings, history, famous outlaws, farming machinery and wagons, it offered a little bit of everything. This prison even held a few woman! A must stop if you are in the area and enjoy history. It's self guided, so you get to explore at your own pace. Little gift shop and very clean facilities.

Shelley G — Google review

Great little place to see! Very interesting and love that the tour is self guided with people placed at various places to answer questions. The only comment I have that could be construed as negative would just be to get the "staff" to be a bit more excited and interactive. I had to ask if one of them worked there due to them acting detached. If this changes it will literally be top notch.

Ryan B — Google review

Really interesting, historic stop in Laramie. Once housed Butch Cassidy. One of the more interesting things to do in the area. Great way to spend time as a break from nearby camping.

Preston B — Google review

Nine dollar entrance for adults, self guided tour of the prison. That’s great information and photos and exhibits. Love this place. It took me about an hour to visit almost everything, nobody else was there when I was. There is a second floor and you can use elevator if needed.

Christopher C — Google review

If you love Western history and museums then this is a "must see" for your visit to or trip through Laramie. There are lots of things to explore, read about, experience, and learn here. You can pay for a guided tour OR they'll give you a pamphlet with everything labeled and summarized so you can do a walking tour by yourself at your own pace (I've done it twice now). The entrance fee is $9 normally, but (unknowingly) the last time I went a week ago it was free.

Hunter D — Google review

Being a history nerd, this place was of special interest to my wife and I. We tagged along an official tour guide who knew his stuff. It's great to learn the history things and places, and ALOT went on here. Butch Caddywas her for a few years, among many others... I had no idea that broom making was such a big business here!! Plan on at least an hour and a half... There are stories on maybe 25+ inmates who were here, plus a whole section Butch Cassidy as well... 👍👍👍👍

Peter P — Google review

Nice museum with lots to see and learn about the prisons history. We took the tour and our guide was knowledgeable and funny, however, it was a bit too long. Recommend condensing the talk tour to about 30 minutes. People can always retrace steps and read the detailed plaques and exhibits.

So you look here and see these rad rocks, but the trail doesn't go there. The rocks are in this rich neighborhood's backyard and the trail goes through the low points where you can't see them because they didn't want to build the trail through their landfill of construction trash. So disgusting what happened to this beautiful place. I encourage you to ignore the signs and go off trail to actually enjoy this place. The yucca plants will be just fine , trust me.

Kyle C — Google review

The trail was clean, and beautiful. I enjoyed a bit of the elevation, but not so intense. The sunset at the picnic area was breathtaking. In the afternoon, the rocks covered the trails makes it a bit cooler and some shade which helps with the temperature.

Devils Backbone is a good scenic trail and I would qualify it as easy. If you want to bring family you can do so. Also the trails allow dirt biking. If you do the extended hike which is 7 miles round trip there is some rock scrambling and a also very few people that far.I think it's $11 to park, overall beautiful trail.

Great trail for walking/easy easy hiking. Good if you dont have time to reach the mountains but still want some trail time. Great place for bikers as well. Cool viewpoints overlooking the foothills and some of the nearby peaks. Easy enough for kids and dogs. Longest point is 5.5 miles out so round trip would get you near 11 miles if you wanted the full deal. Key hole lookout/viewpoint is awesome.

I did this hike alone with three kids. They had fun. I had fun. It's the perfect distance for my 3.5 year old. I didn't have to carry her. My older two asked to do it again sometime.

Benson Sculpture Garden is a charming city park located in Loveland, Colorado, right next to the picturesque Lake Loveland. Spanning 10 acres of verdant land that was once part of the Benson homestead, this garden showcases 154 eclectic and unique sculptures. The artistic styles range from representational to abstract, with materials including metal and stone. Some sculptures are serious while others are whimsical, offering a diverse and captivating experience for visitors.

What an amazing park! We definitely recommend going! We were visiting from Colorado Springs and found this park by accident when we needed to walk our dog but we were pleasantly surprised. We didn't have enough time to walk through the whole park but we will go back. Very well taken care of!

Much larger than I expected. A great quiet place to walk around. Cute little sculptures that are kid friendly. We found a little sandpit that my toddler enjoyed playing in.I'm sure I missed it but I didn't see the women's restroom, but I saw the men's.

Jennifer B — Google review

I enjoyed my brisk walk through the sculpture garden to find the frog sculpture I saw online. What a nice place to wander through in the evening before a show! I’m glad that I found this to visit during a summer evening in Loveland. I would love to walk through it again.

This huge collection of sculptures is beautiful and provocative. Plus, they are set in a serene park, which is great for walking, running, or walking the dog.

Wonderful park to walk around and marvel at beautiful art work.

If you find yourself in Loveland, Colorado, make sure to stop by the Benson Sculpture Park, with an impressive collection of 154 sculptures. We were only able to see 30 of them so far, we look forward to our next visit.

Such a cool place to go for an evening walk... love the variety of sculptures, something for everyone!

Beautiful little spot for pictures. There's beautiful flowers, ponds, ducks, and of course the sculptures. My family strolled around and pictures of each other and enjoyed ourselves here. Parking was easy, and there was plenty of space. There was a pavilion where a little wedding was taking place while we were there.

Vedauwoo Climbing Area is a stunning natural location with a variety of climbing opportunities for both beginners and experts. The area boasts scenic boulders and trails that are not overcrowded, even when the parking area is full. It's also dog-friendly and has pit toilets in some locations. However, visitors should be aware that there isn't much shade, and it can get windy at times.

Excellent day trip. Took some drone photos for a different perspective. Gorgeous.

Very cool rock features and natural area. Can't wait to go back and explore further.

Preston B — Google review

This was a very unique trip and I’m so glad I went. I’ll make this review simple with pros and cons.Pros: Very unique, there’s not really a sense of direction so you can go climb anywhere (at your own risk), very cheap / free depending on if you’re camping or just hiking / camping; they had restrooms that were easily found, and lastly the views and overall area was just so nice and well kept. Great place for those who want to throw an event, camp, or even just climb!Cons: Figuring out where to go or park was very confusing, the place is very popular so camping spots are kind of hard to get, the one section is all dirt road and not meant for sedans or low to the ground cars, there wasn’t really any markers or trails so getting lost is quite common, lastly it genuinely is dangerous so please be careful when climbing (I myself fell but I’m okay)Overall: 3.95/5.00, would recommend!

Raymond B — Google review

What an awesome place! Was a little chilly and snow covered, but still were able to visit and enjoy the beautiful place! Just be prepared for wind, it’s always windy in Wyoming

Greta place for camping and hiking. I've been coming here for a very long time and I really enjoy it, it's just a great place to go to get out whether it's for a day trip or for a few days. I would definitely recommend coming up here, the wildlife up here is also just as beautiful as I've seen deer elk moose Etc :)

Great recreation area, rocks are wild.

Jens L — Google review

Absolutely unreal how beautiful this place is! Was definitely a huge reason for visiting and then living in Laramie for a while. The combination of the rocks, the colors, the sky, grass, and all the trails are what makes it so special all year round.

Casey S — Google review

This is a climber’s paradise. I didn’t have enough time to do an actual hike or climb, but I did get a chance to get a decent look around and it was so beautiful. It’s definitely a spot that is well taken care of, but popular. Absolutely stop here whether you’re driving by or want to stay for a few days. The sites themselves are beautiful.

River Rafting & Tubing

A Wanderlust Adventure offers thrilling whitewater rafting trips in Estes Park and Fort Collins, Colorado, on the Cache La Poudre River. The guides are highly praised for their expertise and ability to create a safe yet exciting experience. Visitors appreciate the emphasis on safety and the enthusiastic, knowledgeable guides who make the trip enjoyable.

Colin was an excellent guide who cared a lot about his passengers. He not only was an excellent at steering our raft but he knew information about the surrounding area of the Poudre River. He made it a fun and exciting experience. We highly recommend Wanderlust Adventure.

Riley, aka “Super Scrappy” was the best rafting guide I’ve ever had. I was nervous taking my daughter who shies away from physical situations. Riley made the experience fun, safe and boosted my daughter’s confidence. Riley has the perfect balance of calm to handle whatever emergencies the river deals out, and the energy and quick thinking to respond. While the risk is part of the fun, hands down I’d want a guide like Riley whenever I take a first timer. She made the trip so much fun! Thank you!

We recently visited Colorado on vacation and booked with A Wanderlust rafting, it was our first time .Let me just say when we arrived to check in every person we came in contact with was welcoming and had a very upbeat positive vibe, it got us excited for the trip. From the information session they give to the bus ride over to the lake we had a blast, they kept the energy going. When we finally got paired up with a guide let me just say we got a true gem , her name was Laura and she was very informative about all the instructions and information to keep us safe on the river , made sure we understood before we took off. We absolutely loved her she was such a genuine person, she chatted with us, made the rafting fun for us , even though it was a lot of work for her because it took us a while to get it together lol she kept the energy up and if we could give her 10 stars we definitely would. We will definitely be back to raft again with this establishment and we recommend this place 100% , Also a big shoutout to the photographer because it looks like a lot of work being responsible for taking the photos and she captured some of the best photos of us on the river. Awesome job!!! So to our guide Laura thank you for making our first rafting trip in Colorado one to remember, you rock and we will definitely always remember you!!!! Until next year 😉

We had a 3 generation family group of 15 ...2 grandparents, 3 siblings and spouses and 7 grandchildren aged 7-17. The folks at Wanderlust guided us through the process of splitting the crew up but still managed to keep us in 2 boats. Paula and Krista were our guides and they were fantastic! Instructional videos were provided and the experience was educational as well as enjoyable! Great tour!

We took a large youth group here and had an amazing time. The staff was great to work with for our group and really helped everyone get comfortable. They were efficient in getting us ready and on our way. Shout out to my guide Ryan! He explained everything really well, added some local history and knowledge, and even rocked a new hair style provided by some of our girls!

Nate L — Google review

What a great experience! Taylor was amazing, and the river was exciting. This is my second time using Wanderlust, and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend!

Louie R — Google review

Fantastic experience! We had a mixed age group with kids (9 & 7), parents, and a grandparent and the trip was just perfect. The right amount of “thrills” for the kids and an overall enjoyable experience for the adults. Andy was our guide and she was top notch. I appreciated how clear she was with her directions and talking to the kids who had never been rafting before. They loved it and asked to go again! Highly recommend Wanderlust and we will definitely be back.

Jackie T — Google review

Wanderlust is the best! Lucas and Dan were exceptional guides and made for a really fun and safe activity for our team. I highly recommend a rafting trip with Wanderlust for your staff - spirits are high at work this week because of the experience that we had!

New Belgium Brewing Company, founded in 1995 by a pair of beer-loving cyclists, offers a wide range of craft beers at its taproom in Fort Collins. The brewery is part of the city's vibrant craft-brewing scene, which includes other notable names like Odell Brewing Company and CooperSmith's Pub & Brewery. Visitors can take guided tours to see the brewing process firsthand and sample some of New Belgium's Belgian-style brews.

We did the 90 minute tour today and had the best time! Our tour guide, Kyle, was fabulous! He was funny, informative and kind. I learned so much and sampled many kinds of beer. Such a cool place and everything was reasonably priced.

Neat experience seeing such a large brewery's home site. Didn't do a tour, but the beers we had were cold and refreshing. Would come back to try the tours I've heard great things about.

Wonderful Tour! Great Beers! Awesome Employees! We did the 90 minute (it goes by quicker than you think) tour, which includes many samples of their beers. The tour is very reasonably priced. You will learn fascinating facts about their company, the brewing process, and their beers. Our tour guide, Cassy, was phenomenal! We even got a surprise with a tasting of a new, yet to be released beer. I do indeed recommend the tour!!!

I have loved NB beer for a long time. It started with 1554 and has just continued since. I loved all except the Wild Sage in my flight but my friend loved it so it worked out perfectly.Highly recommend New Belgium beers to everyone 💜Also - the employees here are incredibly kind. Top notch service. 😃

The tour was so much fun! Shout-out to Nicki (I think it's her name) for being a great guide, and being really energetic and charismatic throughout. The beers were solid enough, but this is a must if you're in Fort Collins!

The New Belgium Brewing company is an amazing gem in Fort Collins. We took the production tour, and it was incredible. The passion for their craft really shines. If you are anywhere near, this is a worthwhile stop. The tasting room and outdoor seating area as well are a cure stop in itself to pick up some great beer.Just remember to drink water, especially if it is hot.

New Belgium puts on a superb tour. The grounds were interesting, with bikes and history filled the hallways and grounds. New Belgium provided generous tastings throughout the tour, and our tour leader was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. After the tour, we enjoyed the beautiful grounds while we grabbed lunch at one of the two food carts. This was my second tour at New Belgium. Our group will definitely be coming back.

Beautiful and peaceful. Went on a weekday. Parents let their kids get in the water and play under the bridge. They have picnic tables, grills and lots of nice shade trees. Lovely place for family gatherings and photo ops. They also had volleyball nets. No vending, concessions or gift shop.Highly recommend if you’ve never been there!!!

Reserve your spot today, they also have some camping, covered table areas, not a ton of Parking so if you have to use a non existent spot it's okay if all other spots are full! Walk across bridge and to the left to the natural bridge and shallow area for kids and adults to soak or float or swim, then there's also a side hill pathway before bridge (must hike up) to go on top of natural bridge! WARNING ⚠️ ⚠️⚠️ Be careful on top! They do have a couple horse shoe pits by the back , watch for Snakes closer to back areas and the river sides

This is about a 45 min drive from where we live in Casper. Our family is my husband and I, a 2 yo, a 3 yo and a 5 mo. Everyone had an absolute blast.Ayres is open 8 a to 8 p during the summer. I can't speak for the camping, but our day trip was free. If you keep going past the 1st parking spots, you'll see a playground along with more parking. There's a small bridge to get over to the rock formation and little river. If you have toddlers, this place is perfect. Nice and cool, shaded. Slow moving water. Kids can just splash around and have fun. There are picnic tables and grills, volley ball nets etc. The playground also specifically has swings meant to put a wheelchair on! Bugs did start to get bad about 7:30, but it was time to go anyway. Didn't notice any before that. ❤️Park is not dog friendly! Just an FYI. Plenty of restrooms at the front and back of the park.

Always a shock once you get into the park as it ipens into a hidden oasis. Great palce for families.9 camping spots and 20-30 picnic spots. I've camped with my kids here for 15 years. A well maintained road in. The gate opens and closes promptly at 8am and 8pm. Feels very safe and cozy.

The area offers an array of outdoor activities such as climbing, hiking, and exploring scenic spots. The Palace in Poudre Canyon is particularly renowned for its climbing routes and breathtaking scenery. Visitors can also enjoy the rapid river sounds and uncommercialized natural beauty.

The Palace in Poudre Canyon is absolutely amazing! Offers obscene amounts of routes and climbing, not so much bouldering, but a few routes hiding around. Awesome hiking and a lot of places to explore here! If you climb though this is a Mecca. You will run into plenty of people who are in general fairly nice and willing to stop and talk!!! Super beautiful scenery and lots to do!! Wouldn’t recommend bringing your kids and family unless your a family in the climbing scene!

The Wyoming State Museum in Cheyenne offers a comprehensive look at the state's rich history, culture, and natural heritage. Established in 1895 and funded by the state government, this museum is dedicated to honoring Wyoming's past while also celebrating its present and future. Visitors can explore a wide range of exhibits, from showcasing the National Park Service to delving into the state's topography and highlighting local artists.

An adorable, free museum focusing on the west and Wyoming! They have an AMAZING interactive kids area and interactive displays throughout the museum. The lady at the front was very informative, welcoming, and kind!

I am still amazed at all the remarkable items and information that is displayed and curated so expertly. The museum seems small but don't let that fool you, all the items and exhibits are packed with information. I'm still mulling over what I saw, heard, and read. It's what a museum should be. I learned so much mostly because the exhibits are compelling.

Joel H — Google review

An amazing place. The museum will tell you everything you need to know about Wyoming's history. From the era of the dinos to the convulsing times of the 20th Century. The collection of artifacts, outfits, rocks, bones...is truly remarkable. I'd like to mention that I really enjoyed the second floor, dedicated, almost entirely, to Indian American culture.

Daniel B — Google review

Great history museum in downtown Cheyenne! Free admission, they accept donations instead. They have great exhibits about Wyoming and its history. From times of the dinos, to the lives of the indigenous people, and then the establishment of WY as a state. There's also a small section with some contemporary art. I was especially touched by the exhibit that shared information and statistics about Missing, Murdered, and Indigenous Women exhibit and video in the gallery. This is an issue that needs a lot more attention and I appreciate that it is here. I really enjoyed my visit. Thank you

The Cheyenne Depot Museum is a captivating all-ages attraction dedicated to the Union Pacific Railroad. Housed in the historic 1887 Cheyenne Depot, it offers a glimpse into the golden age of train travel and the role of the railroad in shaping the American West. Visitors can explore photographs, artifacts, and documents that chronicle life in Cheyenne during the railroad boom of the late 1800s.

Really cool place. Lots of train stuff to look at. They have several model train displays. You are right by the train tracks so there’s a good chance a train will go by while you’re there.

Very cool places to learn about, see, and play with TRAINS! Learn about the history of Cheyenne and how the train depot played a big part in helping to establish it. It also has a lot of history information about Union Pacific.Took us about 2 hours to go through the whole thing. Lots to read and learn about. They also have different spots to sit and watch short videos. You can call a phone number and get a free audio tour through the whole thing. It costs $10 per adult, but kids 12 and under are free. I think 13-17 was about $7? It's definitely worth it. They also have a cool gift shop too. There are two floors to go through, and the second floor has a whole model set up. Look for dinosaurs. 🦖Also, be sure to check out the Big Boy 4004 down the street after you go through the museum. It's awesome. It's at a park and it's free.

We decided to drive into Cheyenne and check out their train museum there. The place is priced well and full of great docents to answer questions. Jewel Cave National Monument is a historic site that features over 170 miles of trails, lantern tours, and opportunities to view wildlife. Visitors can explore the fascinating cave system with its colorful walls and unique formations. However, due to the ongoing elevator renovation, only two tours are currently available: Discovery tour and Lantern tour. Despite this limitation, visitors have praised the ranger guide for their extensive knowledge about the cave during these tours.

A short drive from Custer SD, Jewel Cave is a great site that shouldn't be missed if you find yourself exploring the Black Hills. It is fee free to visit and enjoy the above ground amenities, but all access to view the cave is by guide tour only, which requires tickets. Purchasing advance tickets through recreation.gov is the best way to view the cave at a time that is conducive to your schedule. Read the rules and regulations carefully, there are specific requirements regarding what you can(not) bring into the cave and the types of footwear needed. There are also some hiking trails available at the monument and nearby in the National Forest. The gift shop does offer some light packaged goods as far as food, but there are no concessions so be sure to make use of the picnic tables with your own food or grab a bite to eat in Custer to the East or Newcastle WY to the West. Jewel Cave is only about an hour (+/-) from Rapid City, the Rushmore National Memorial, and Wind Cave National Park. Custer State Park is just about half an hour. Devils Tower National Monument and Badlands National Park are also in or near the greater Black Hills area. There's plenty to see and do, but don't miss this awesome unit and the incredible tours it offers.

There is plenty of parking and a small visitor center, but without a ticket, you cannot take any of the three tours on offer (only two outside of summer hours). The trip is fully guided by a Park Ranger and he was hilarious as well as very informative for our group of about 20-25 people. This is NOT a tour for those with disabilities or heart issues or vertigo or claustrophobia (especially this one). Our tour was about 1 hour 30 minutes in length and has almost 800 steps up and down that have to be traversed. You begin with an elevator ride down almost 400 feet below the surface where you learn that what seemed like a small cave in the beginning (2 miles in total length) actually is only about 3-5% of the total area of the cave based on air volume. Right now (as of September 2024), they have explored only 222.3 miles, but believe it could easily be found to be the largest caving system in North America, if not in the world. Some beautiful features are found in this enclosed cave system and unlike some places like Carlsbad Caverns, you will not find any bats here. The Bacon Room was an expected treat (pun intended) and hard to believe what has grown in this dark, little-known world deep beneath the feet of those who walk through the Black Hills of South Dakota. There is a little gift shop that is worth visiting and I highly recommend getting the video that shows much more than you will ever see on the guided tours.Overall, the visit to Jewel Cave was well worth the cost of the tickets (about $16 a piece if I remember correctly) for the longer discovery tour. We will be visiting again.

Very nice cave tour and the staff was amazing at showing off the cave! Gave a lot of facts and knowledge about the history and geology! There were elevators that bring you down about 230 feet, but there are a lot of stairs to traverse!

I highly recommend the scenic guided tour at Jewel Cave National Monument! This cave has unique calcite formations that differ from the other major cave systems in the country. Very enjoyable! Shout out to our guide, Christine, for a fantastic experience. Make sure to hydrate beforehand...no drinks of any kind allowed in the cave.

An Absolutely amazing adventure! We rode an elevator approximately 340 feet below the ground and toured a beautiful cave. It is cold down there so wear a sweatshirt or leggings. There are over 700 steps for the exhibit tour which lasts about 90 minutes. But it is not a difficult hike at all. The tour guide will have the group stop at different areas of the cave to explain different features or historical details which allows you to rest if you must. No one in our 30 member group needed to rest. It was a well orchestrated tour with beautiful caverns.

We did not actually get to go down to the cave itself as the next available tour wasn’t for three hours and we had to keep moving, but we did check out the visitor center and watch the film. The film was pretty good and showed how the cave was discovered and how it looks inside. Fascinating to think this could be the biggest cave system in the world! I like that they offer a fully accessible tour option. Do note that shoes are required for the cave tours, no sandals or other open footwear permitted.

Great experience. You need to take a tour to get into the cave, which is about 200 ft. down an elevator. A basic 25-minute tour is only $6. It's a good idea to buy a ticket in advance online. PS, the cave is really cool, 49 degrees to be exact. Bring a jacket or sweatshirt.

Capt. N — Google review

The basic tour was all that was available when we went to get tickets. It was just an elevator ride into a large chamber. The guide then told use how cool the cave was and took us back up the elevator after 20 minutes. We only saw one chamber. It sounds like a very cool cave but we were allowed to see only one chamber of it. That was disappointing.

The Wild Horse Sanctuary is so amazingly neat amd always so cool to take a drive down the driveway to the gift shop, get pictures of the horses and beautiful scenery from all the various landscapes and topographic that encompass the area.I'm from Minnesota and I'm moving to some ranchalnd less than 5 miles from here so plan on spending more time visiting here as I absolutely love the country and horses!

Wife and I visited while in area - driving in saw 2 herds near the road - so beautiful! Continued to visitor’s center where we had a lovely chat with Theresa in the gift shop, which was ironic as my wife’s name is also Theresa! Wife bought a fair amount from the gift shop and then we wandered around the corrals visiting horses. Ranch hands all greeted us warmly as they went about feeding and shared horse’s names with us. A very peaceful place! Later at home we watched the film about Dayton, the founder. We were moved to sponsor one of the mustangs. Honestly we hadn’t expected much when we took a drive there, but it truly touched our hearts more than we expected it would! Just go, take your time and sit & watch these amazing souls for a while and you’ll see what we mean.

See rescued wild Mustangs and learn about there fight for survival. This facility provides a long-term home four wild horses. The tour was very nice, but a little pricey, at least it goes to a good cause. The wild turkeys were fun to see. And we got to admire an amazing Petroglyph panel and old school house (would have been nice to have gone in). We also got to see one of the locations for the filming of Hildago.

Lady in gift shop was nice and informative didnt get to take the tour had to have a reservation

Was on our way to elsewhere, so dropped by. Wasn't expecting much, but this was so lovely. Got to see the horses ambling by, or running across, some were rolling in the dirt, just horsing around (😂 can't help myself). We got lucky that the horses were quite close to the highway we turned in from, and so we didn't drive in to the sanctuary all the way.

Kriti C — Google review

Amazing place! I’d recommend doing a private tour. Our guide was excellent and his wealth of knowledge about the horses and the history made it well worth it.

Cory K — Google review

Such a beautiful sanctuary with stunning horses. Drove through on one of my epic road trips with the dogettes and, even though they were closed, the horses came right up to the fence (very curious about the barking fur kids haha). They were absolutely gorgeous and, even though I couldn't get the full sanctuary experience, I have no regrets about driving by!

Museum

Sights & Landmarks

The Mammoth Site is a museum and research center that showcases numerous mammoth remains preserved in an ancient sinkhole. It is home to the largest concentration of mammoth remains in the world, with 61 mammoths discovered so far. The site was found in 1974 and provides insight into the area's prehistoric past through ongoing excavations that visitors can observe.

Absolutely fascinating. A piece of history preserved for generations to learn from and appreciate. While not a huge museum it is a valuable location that is worth a visit. Children and adults alike stood pointing and talking and engaging in conversation about everything from geology to the Ice Age movies. If you are in the area it is so worth the time to go through.

This place is fantastic! The put itself is surprisingly not large, but it is do cool. They have a qr- code tour with audio and text. It’s also wheel chair and stroller accessible. They have cool souvenirs as well, this museum was better than I expected and that’s saying something.

Great spot, especially on a rainy day! Love the history of how this came to be. Pros: informative, interesting, interactive. Cons: Not many hands-on elements for the basic tour for young kids other than a small room at the end. Please note - there is a basic entry fee for the self-guided tour and then several different add-on packages. We thought that there was a “dig” interactive component included, however, it’s additional price and you have to arrive before a certain time and register (we didn’t see this information anywhere on the website or advertising. We would have gladly upgraded to do the family dig, but we arrived after they were done for the day which initially bummed us out). Also do note - this is an active dig site and there were people there working on the dig. They pretty much ignore the visitors so there isn’t much interaction, but they’re focused and working so we understood. It’s a self-guided tour, and the tour is informative and matches up well to the signage and flags they have marking the different stops in the dig. I found those really helpful, especially when discussing what was happening with my young son. There are additional exhibits dedicated to other fossils besides the mammoth, which was great to keep it interesting for kids. A staff member we did talk with towards the end was very helpful in recommending similar activities around the area that our family may find interesting, and she spent time chatting with us and telling us even more about animals and dig sites.

Rachel W — Google review

I stumbled up this by accident. I am so glad I stopped and got to explore this AMAZING active dig site. So many bones and most actually in place as they were hundreds of thousands of years ago. The facility was perfectly designed to showcase the dig site. The short movie was very educational and definitely made the experience more meaningful. I learned alot and would definitely recommend to all ages.

5-Star Review for The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, SDThe Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, SD, is truly a hidden gem and an absolute must-see! The building itself is stunning—modern, clean, and meticulously maintained, which only adds to the sense of wonder you feel while exploring this incredible piece of history. The staff were exceptional, going above and beyond to make our visit both memorable and educational. Their passion for the site’s history and their kindness toward visitors of all ages really stood out. They took the time to answer our questions and make sure we left with a deeper appreciation for this rare paleontological treasure. The history of the Mammoth Site is fascinating—a sinkhole that trapped and preserved mammoths over 26,000 years ago, creating the world’s largest concentration of Columbian mammoth remains. Walking through the dig site and seeing the fossils in situ is an awe-inspiring experience that brings history to life in a way that few places can.Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a fossil lover, or just looking for a unique experience, this site delivers on every level. We can’t wait to come back! Highly recommend!

This was such a nice stop on our way through SD. Very interesting and informative. We had a nice time walking through the museum and taking our time to listening to a self guided tour using QR codes. Highly recommend making this a stop on your next trip through this area.

Sara K — Google review

Awesome place to visit. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Would recommend for anyone going to the area. It was on my list and I drove all the way from Saskatchewan Canada to see it!

This is a very well done exhibit. We enjoyed it more than we thought we would. I appreciate the self guided tour QR codes and free WiFi. You can read or listen, so it may be nice to bring headphones. There were several areas where kids were enjoying themselves, including a water and sand table and an area for younger kids too.

Nature & Parks

Wind Cave National Park Visitor Center is a year-round facility and serves as the starting point for all cave tours. It offers maps, books, and nature exhibits. The center provides interesting information about the cave history, animals, and environment in the park. The staff is friendly and helpful. The park itself features trails filled with wildlife such as bison, coyotes, and prairie dogs. Visitors are advised to be mindful of bison along the trails.

Unfortunately, when I went, they weren't offering tours of the cave. The elevator was down for maintenance, supposedly. So, the rangers recommended me some trails to hike and overlooks to go sightseeing at. Very helpful and informative! I'll definitely have to come back when the cave is open!

An P — Google review

Even with rain, this NP and the Visitor Center were gorgeous. The NP ranger took a lot of time to explain the park and wildlife to my child, showing him all sorts of things. The tour to the natural cave entrance was phenomenal and informative. We loved this park more than we expected to.

Kimberly P — Google review

Well worth visiting even though the caves were closed. Wonderful detailed explanation of the geology, the animals and the indian tribes. We enjoyed the hike and saw a bull snake (not dangerous)

Marijke L — Google review

Although the cave is closed for the summer/fall season due to elevator update, there is still plenty to see and do above ground! Take your time at the exhibits inside the visitor center to learn all about the park, explore the trails and drive through the park. Keep your eyes peeled for Bison! There are so many!

Caleb C — Google review

I love this NP. I didn't go in the cave because of construction, but it's so worth driving through. The scenery and wildlife are amazing.

Stephen M — Google review

The visitors center had magnets to purchase to add to my ever-growing magnet collection. The natural entrance to the cave is just out the downstairs door, but it's simply a hole about as big a round as a basketball. Not many people here since the cave in closed until Fall 2024. I visited July 1, 2024.

Alex B — Google review

Very interesting. I didn’t expect the vast stretches of cave that are part of this NM. The National Park Service has 4 possible tours from a one “room” discovery of the cave, which I did, to crawling around fir several hours in the cave.

Michael K — Google review

This park has all the feels. The wide prairies are stunning. The cave is closed until fall, but we went to hike and LOVED the Buffalo flats hike. It had EVERYTHING. Cold Canyon Creek was also nice.
